Chico Implementation
5 member team to implement Leganto
Have not signed off on the implementation with ExLibris yet; still some tweaks that need to be worked out.
Technical Considerations
The LTI authenticates via the Leganto LTI from within BB Learn.
This connection also establishes the course in Alma (They do not load courses into Alma.)
How Chico is using Leganto:
Did post-surveys across campus and received a mostly positive response.
Fall has been slow going, but it’s currently live at Chico.
Will be promoting for spring quarter, as it’s not being well used now.
Jodi showed how to add citations using OneSearch. The instructor would do this themselves.
After the instructor adds physical items to the list the book just stays in the stacks. If the instructor wants the book on reserve, then he/she would have to add a note or notify the department, so the item can be physically moved and the location can be updated.
Some instructors find it technically difficult, but most find it fairly intuitive to use; some professors see the value in it and others find it to be inconvenient.
San Marcos:
Why did we select Leganto?
For students: Superior user experience, integration with LMS and personalization.
For Faculty: More options for developing their own reading lists, integration with the LMS and personalization.
For Library Staff: More efficient back office workflows for managing reserves, load digitized files to Alma, integration with the LMS and PeopleSoft and integrate course intake workflow.
San Marcos Implementation
Started the kick off meeting in November, 2017 and went live for Spring, 2018 (end of January).
Reading lists are managed by library staff but currently are training faculty to do this directly.
PeopleSoft imports the course data to Leganto.
Can roll over the reading lists through the course data import.
Ian showed the back end configuration set up of Leganto in Alma and some customization options.
Ah-ha and Uh-oh Moments
There was a learning curve for staff.
The notification system still needs to be tweaked.
It’s helpful to have frequent meetings, even after you go live.
Outreach
Start local by teaching the librarians and it was a good test audience.
Librarians also can help reach out to faculty and help teach.
Spring 2018 send out an email announcement to Leganto and asking for volunteers to pilot it; had around 30 volunteers.
Faculty Training Objectives
Had training sessions with ExLibris and only 3 faculty members showed up.
Also sent out the videos from ExLibris and did several one-on-one training sessions.
Established the why:
No more forms!
Focus on the benefits for the students.
Decrease processing time by library staff.
Show them how.
Remind them why:
Can customize with notes.
The professor can also see how many students are clicking the the citation links.
Faculty Feedback:
Very positive overall.
Loved the customization and organization of it.
All:
What is your overall opinion??
Kelly Ann: Hated it at first, but turned out to be a really great tool. More features than you can use, but there is a big learning curve.
Jodi: If faculty can use it as a tool to get organized then it will be great, but there is a big hill to get faculty on board. She can see potential.
