Discussion Topics

CSU+ Due Dates

  • Current CSU+ due date is June 15th

    • 14 campuses have June 2021 due dates

  • Discuss the pros and cons for extending due dates into Fall

    • Pros

      • Not all classes on in-person so some students still may not be attending classes and will not be local

    • Cons

      • Libraries want their books back

  • Develop a recommendation for COLD - Jamie will write up

Consensus:

Do not extend due dates

Be lenient with students

Do not bill for lost items until Spring 2022

  • If there is a strong need for it then we can extend but many campuses are reopening

  • Recommend NO but ask for leniency with students who are unable to return items by the due date

    • Work with them on a case by case scenario

  • Should we not charge for overdue books?

    • 1 semester grace period to return CSU+ books

      • Fall 2021 - don’t bill for “lost” CSU+ books

    • Turn jobs on in January for billing

  • Recommend libraries let their users know the multiple ways they can return items (book drop, mail, etc.)

  • Accept courtesy returns, except for CSULA

  • Summer 2021 - work on customized letter to let users know that the CSU+ books are due that can be sent to specific users through a job (potentially a lot of work)

Quarantine Guidelines

  • New guidelines from the CDC say transmission from surfaces is low.

  • LA County DPH eliminated the need to quarantine library books upon return.

  • Develop a recommendation for COLD - Jamie will write up

    • 72 hours to no quarantine can be drastic

    • 24 hour quarantine can be thought of as the transit time (dropped in book drop and then removed for check-in by staff)

    • Maybe 24 hour quarantine for Fall and then no quarantine in Spring

    • Promote safe handling of materials (i.e. handwashing)

Reopening Planning

  • Reopening Planning was raised at the Fulfillment Spring Open Forum, but no one had much information to share.

  • Do we want to work together to make recommendations for reopening procedures?

    • Campuses are in the beginning stages of planning.

    • We can develop a survey to gather information on CSU-wide planning efforts and what people would like to see in an open forum.

    • Natalya & Jamie will plan a joint meeting in May to discussing reopening planning.

  • Possible joint open forum this summer
