Discussion Topics

Campus Updates / Announcements

  • ACRL Access Services Interest Group meeting on 2/25 was great (thanks!)

  • Another one coming up on March 4th - Joanna will forward to the ULMS Access listserv

  • Campuses are starting to make plans for what Fall 2021 will look like; lots of variations among campuses as negotiations move forward about staffing, facilities open, etc.

  • Concerns about student employee hiring and training (enormous turnover!)

  • Buildings are very open and allow a lot of access around many of our spaces - planning is a challenge many will be facing for the next semester.

  • Looking at Repopulating Guidelines and resuming services on site.

  • Rialto demo this week - more for Acquisitions/ERM audience but something to keep on our radar

Open Forum Update

  • Laura & John confirmed March 25th. Slight preference for 11am start time.

  • We should send out a “Save the date” reminder. - Confirmed for March 25th, 11am-12pm.

  • Jamie will send a “Save the date” reminder to the listserv.

ExLibris Survey Updates

  • Review topics and teams.

  • Template created to help document issues. Copy before editing.

  • Has anyone had a chance to discuss? Not yet.

  • Do the best you can with finding information. The more completely we can describe the problem and share our ideal environment/behavior, the better of a response we’ll get from Ex Libris. If one area has more documentation than another, it’s fine. It would work well if we could provide an example of what we would like the function to do - a proposed solution that documents how a proposed function would work. Otherwise, we may hear that we need more training.

Primo VE Testing

(see Primo VE evaluation information)

  • Book requesting

    • Chris put together a draft form with basic fields to enter. We have some time to practice here. Some of the configurations aren’t yet complete for some of the campuses.

    • Jamie tested SFSU’s setup live. Was able to place a request, viewed it in Alma, was able to cancel the item from the patron’s account, and the request cancellation letter generated correctly and removed the hold request from the queue.

    • Asking for those with retrieval systems to ensure that the books are being pulled correctly, just to make sure that the SIP handoff is working properly.

    • Kelly Ann tested CSUSM’s setup live. She selected a book where CSUSM’s copy is on course reserve, which usually allows users to request a different library’s available copy. She can’t see a request option for another library’s book unless she clicks on a specific library’s holding, and still can’t get the “Request” option to populate correctly. No Pickup Location enabled, but when closing out, it shows the pickup locations for the owning library.

    • Seems to be an extra click to get to the item you’re looking for.

  • Issues identified so far:

    • Blocking the placing of a request for an item if the library owns the book but it’s not available for loan (checked out to someone else or in a non-loanable location).

    • Bringing in the services available from the owning library when you go into the item detail to try to get to a request option (ie showing the digitization option for an SDSU-owned item for a logged-in SFSU user and logged-in CSUSM user, and neither campus has digitization services enabled at this time.)

    • Chris will take to RSFC.

  • Requesting for on-campus materials works correctly! But need to test the retrieval system process still. Jamie will do when she’s on campus tomorrow.

  • Will need to test the digitization form in Primo VE. Sonoma isn’t yet set up, so Dawnelle will work on this when it’s available to her.
