Repository Developer Position

@David Walker

https://careers.calstate.edu/detail.aspx?pid=79936

CM posted to the C4L list on 3/3/2020

  • No qualified applicants; changed job description and reposted (removed mgmt duties, etc. to attract broader pool) = Digital Repository Developer

  • funding for Kevin as contractor is only through March

    • Propose emergency funding from COLD? All other options have been exhausted

15 minutes

Student work types

@Carmen Mitchell

  • Change label from Dissertations and Theses to Student Works on homepage, + make hyrax work forms more inclusive of non-ETD content (i.e. added resource types, etc.)

  • Discuss with KC/DW/MWG about separating ETD from non-ETDs (i.e., 2 separate forms)

  • MWG is currently reviewing the display definitions for all labels in hyrax

  • OER label?

10 minutes

Metadata WG updates

@Elyse Fox (Unlicensed)

  • Identifiers recommendations made.

    • Will have sep. fields for different identifiers.

    • ORCID is an ongoing investigation.

      dc:identifier other will be the “catchall” for identifiers that are not covered. Would like people to include the prefix for the identifier that they are using.

    • Prefer the specific URL for the resource.

    • Grant IDs generally have to be public facing. Include grant information in the dc:sponsor field.

  • Subject access survey distributed at PM meeting. Wrapping up in a couple of weeks. Might still have some follow-up based on responses.

  • Data dictionary review wrap up.

    • Reviewing definitions and work forms. Looking to get the access copy out so that people can use it.

    • Lingering questions about the rights statement and how to use it. (Particularly for people who might not know a lot about this.)

    • Challenging to have one rights statement to rule them all.

    • Moving forward: have an established default rights statement.

    • Discussed having a “rights statement” on the local campus sites.

    • Suggestion from Elizabeth: What about "copyright information not provided"?
"Not determined" sounds to the lay person as if nobody knows who owns the copyright.

  • March: joint DAWG/MWG meeting. March 19th

10 minutes

Digital Archives WG updates

@Steve Kutay

  • Registry: hoping to complete basic registry asap; use for digital collection development projects

  • Assessment/Rubric development:

  • Sandbox Sites: to test any development options

    • CM: would other practitioners be able to test sandbox sites?

  • Joint meeting with MWG

10 minutes

DataCite

@Mark Bilby (Unlicensed)

Holdover from last meeting: Vote/census about whether the committee would recommend to COLD a consortial subscription to DataCite for DOI-minting?

  • Hardquote in to DataCite regarding direct membership for both SW and OJS (€5,000)

    • Report on Handles:

    • DataCite prices list:

  • Volunteer request to help with a formal proposal (Lana-yes, CM-maybe)

  • We are currently minting 7-10,000 handles/year

  • Send comments/feedback to Mark via email before next meeting; will discuss at next meeting.
