Update from Digital Archives Group

  • Met last week.

  • Will create notes, pages here in DCA space.

  • Want to get stakeholders identified

    • Gathering contacts: name, title, and contact info for each campus.

    • To better understand each campus' capacity and capabilities.

    • How we can leverage those expertise for the system as a whole

    • Gauging interest in a shared digital archives.

  • Surveys from past two years have already gathered some info.

  • Will maintain connection with the wider group of folks interested in digital archives. Considering an open meeting every other month.

Metadata concerns

  • Concerned with some breakdowns in communication

    • e.g., with the specific development items in the RFP.

    • David will link RFP scope of work to the ScholarWorks space.

    • Potential projects shared earlier.

  • Identifying stakeholders may help with communication.

  • Campus project managers may not have passed along as much information as they could.

  • Metadata request form if you see any issues in the demo/prod account.

  • Trello tracking of metadata requests.

 

Data sets (Dryad?)

  • Easy Bay recently started a membership to Dryad through CDL.

    • Non-profit, supported by CDL.

    • Affordable: less than $4,000 a year with as much storage as needed.

    • Google and Figshare crawl Dryad.

    • Google has a data search (in beta).

      • How will Google crawl our CSU IR?

    • Having DOI's is a crucial feature

  • Datasets can be incredibly large.

    • ScholarWorks, hosted in AWS, can take on large files

    • Large files come with costs

  • Not a lot of datasets currently in DSpace.
