Visitor Checkout configuration

  • Christine feels as though her config is off because the checkout time frame is not quite right so she was looking for some documentation to troubleshoot but found none

  • Kevin shows that he has a fulfillment unit rule for visiting patrons where User Group = Visiting Patron (or some version of that) and the output is Resource Sharing Long Loan

  • Christine will use the Fulfillment Configuration Utility to see what’s going on.

  • We are all unsure where this policy landed and it got mixed up in the best practices for policy submission. It could be in limbo with Joe or John W. and the Steering Committee. Jamie is checking in with Joe

CSU+ expansion update

The RSFC has developed some reports to show when items were returned but are running into issues with NZ analytics is preventing much forward motion. Joe and Natalya opened a case but have not received updates.

Course Reserves Updates

  • Kelly Ann: school started last week so no progress

  • Jamie: no progress, she’s slammed

  • Kim: finished going over data but haven’t written out a report of trends. Off the top of her head: star performers were expensive items, math sciences. People want help with workflows. She’s going to compose a report.

  • Christine: trying to make forms full electronic and move away from paper. E-res are all over the board, some do some don’t. For those that do they do things completely differently. Discovery also varies from library to library with some using the scope and others not.

  • Jaime: just started working on it this week. His questions are about marketing, bookstore, budget, ALS. People are very dependent on librarians to promote the service. Not much staff involvement in promotion. ALS is all over the place but he noticed they have money from an alumni class to focus specifically on reserves. Most don’t purchase so they have no idea what their budget is.

  • Aiming to get everything together into one document soon. Perhaps over the next week? Christine and Kim will work on finishing up Jamie’s section.

Next Open Forum

Let’s look at Feb 20, Feb 27 or March 5 and ask people to share info with the Community Colleges so they can attend.

  • Topics: Last patron activity date, walk in patron if that’s finalized, update progress on course reserves, enhancement voting

  • Brainstorm more ideas via email

  • We will decide the date via poll or in our meeting next week

Passwords for “guests”

How do you handle passwords for non-students? Do you assign a temp password? Do you let them make their own password?

No movement toward a required “social” login. “Force password change” checkbox only forces a password change when you log into Alma, not Primo so not useful for patrons

Fresno: gives the patron a temp password (their barcode or something) and asks them to change it

San Marcos: used to make a password as they’re making the account and patron types directly into Alma

San Bernardino: don’t give passwords to community users. Doesn’t seem to be a problem because they don’t have very many.
