Non-ETD resource types

Lia

  • Thoughts from DRC

  • Research on topic

    • student works, faculty works, newspapers, creative works

    • Non-ETD submission form can contain a drop-down for different kinds of content

Name disambiguation

Lia

  • ORCID may not be possible for a bit - are there other options?

    • Can we get a custom author ORCID field?

    • Potential issues with multiple authors if author and ORCID are not connected

    • Can campus administrators add ORCID to a profile on a userโ€™s behalf? (probably not)

    • We can encourage users to provide ORCID

Title capitalization

Melissa

  • Sentence case vs. title case capitalization

    • Students more likely to do title case

    • We can allow either

    • Some faculty (APA) like to use sentence case

  • Standard system for student submissions

Degree name and concentrations

Melissa

  • More explicit instructions for this field would be helpful distinguish it from degree level. The current work form note reads: โ€œThe name of the degree awarded as a result of the resource.โ€ See examples from various campuses:

  • How are other campuses handling degree concentrations (e.g., Psychology: Social Psychology; Psychology: Industrial/Organizational Psychology; Psychology: Developmental Psychology; Psychology: Mind, Brain, and Behavior)? These concentrations are listed on studentsโ€™ title pages at SFSU, and some departments would like the ability to isolate them within ScholarWorks.

  • Can degree level default?

  • Can we get a UC test account?

  • Field definition from LOC linked data, revise to clarify further

Publishing Interest Group reports

Melissa

  • Only one campus with current need for different work types (maybe CPP), most didnโ€™t feel it was a pressing need

  • Rights statement, in favor of having it required default to author owns copyright

  • Can it be above the additional fields fold so authors know default copyright status?

New Trello request: legacy department names

Lia

  • Shuffle to other fields (example: sponsor)

  • Multiple campuses have this kind of legacy data

  • Moving forward have a non-shown descriptive field in the workform

  • Driven by current facets and discoverability

  • Way to associate legacy departments with current ones?

  • We can reorganize this in post migration

Rights statements (if time)

Lia

See above in Publishing Interest Group section

Brian Tu will be helping with Scholarworks

ย

  • Merlot going to CSU Long Beach

  • Brianโ€™s role bit more programmer oriented, getting up to speed
