2019-12-12 Meeting notes

Date

Dec 12, 2019

Participants

  • @Natalya Magazino (Unlicensed)@Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed) @Meghann Brenneman (Unlicensed) @Darnesa Morris (Unlicensed) @Joe Gerdeman (Unlicensed) @Karla Salinas (Unlicensed)

  • Absent = @Joseph Adkins (Unlicensed)

  • Scribe = @Meghann Brenneman (Unlicensed)

Goals

  • Expansion of CSU+: @Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed) will share what she knows about COLD’s response to the expansion of CSU+to include libraries outside the CSU.

  • Holiday Closure page: Review and make sure that updated Holiday Closure page is understandable. Feedback is welcome. We will distribute to everyone next week.

  • Unity Holiday List and MLK service notice: Who would like to distribute/collect responses?

  • Rapid E-book holdings: @Meghann Brenneman (Unlicensed) and @Natalya Magazino (Unlicensed) received a suggestion from Tim Strawn at SLO. Tim would like to see all CSUs registering their E-book holdings with Rapid so that we can more easily share E-book chapters with each other. Let’s discuss. How would this work? Not all CSUs utilize Rapid Book Chapter lending. Would this need to be done on a campus by campus basis? Some publishers have licenses that prevent E-book sharing via ILL. Any other barriers?

  • System-wide Reciprocal Agreement with UCs: This idea was on the original I-SPIE wish list and has risen again as a result of the UC Irvine/UC Davis switch. How should we go about this? It’s unlikely that all UCs will want to enter into a system-wide reciprocal agreement with us. Should we solicit only the UCs in our courier agreement (Irvine, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Riverside, Santa Cruz)? Are we interested in establishing reduced fee agreements with UCs not interested in extending full reciprocal agreements? Books only or books and articles? Irvine doesn’t charge CSUs for books and Riverside doesn’t charge California libraries for books according to Policies Directory.

  • ILLiad account info in Primo: We briefly discussed at last RSFC meeting. Where is the information on this? I found this via a quick Google search: https://github.com/alliance-pcsg/primo-explore-my-ill https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1MBswZDIUJBik2hXgef0B6hkGH6p3ALE2un8jv3eAfEo/edit#slide=id.g1fe99f62de_0_15

  • Cal State Walkin document: Any other thoughts on the document? Do we want to wait to allow CSU+ requesting for Walkin patrons until Alma has the functionality and/or fulfillment people are willing to create Cal State Walkin accounts?

  • Release Testing: San Marcos will begin testing the Alma/ILLiad API on December 16th. Has anyone implemented delayed hold shelf notifications? Should we create procedures for turning on? Where would the procedures live?

Expansion of CSU+

@Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed)

  • Deans are interested in expanding CSU+ beyond the CSUs. It was shared that we could start with linking up with another consortia rather than an individual institution. Next steps are unclear for RSFC but will likely involve information inquiry.

Holiday Closure page

@Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed)

  • Holiday Closure page has been updated to add a means for stopping items for expiring from hold shelf. Includes suggestions for patron messaging and updating calendars.

Unity Holiday List

@Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed)

Review holidays on Unity contract and compare days of CSU closures to find out if/how to communicate closures with Unity. Will reply to Unity to let them know that we want shipment on Columbus day but not Caesar Chavez day.

Rapid E-book holdings

@Natalya Magazino (Unlicensed) and @Meghann Brenneman (Unlicensed)

Rapid holdings in NZ: https://calstate.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/URS/pages/148340839 How do these come into play with what campuses lend? Bringing up Rapid eBooks with I-SPIE tv may be a next step.

System wide reciprocals with UCs

@Natalya Magazino (Unlicensed)

Do we approach a reciprocal conversation with UC and CSU? CSUs pay courier contract thus reciprocal loans would be ideal for at least the courier UCs. Some campuses may have reciprocal agreements already. Find out if CSUs want reciprocal agreements/ have them. I-SPIE tv topic idea: show folks how to look this up and report.

ILLiad account info in Primo

Test to see what it looks like and how it operates to avoid due date issues created by NCIP. Make things more transparent for users. Can this be done without single sign on?

Cal State Walkin Document

We agree with Joe’s advise version- waiting on updates from Joe after conversation with Kevin.

Release Testing

@Natalya Magazino (Unlicensed)

San Marcos will test and document experiences and instructions on tuning it on for other campuses to refer to.

update from Mallory on CO

@Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed)

Remote CO employees are being asked to start reporting to Long Beach thus many CO employees will be leaving when contracts expire. Mallory’s role with us will be ending in June.

Action items

@Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed) send out Holiday closure guide to CSU colleagues.
@Natalya Magazino (Unlicensed)@Meghann Brenneman (Unlicensed) make a custom query for folks to run (to analyze recips) and then show it on I-SPIE tv.
@Natalya Magazino (Unlicensed) will document and post experience for delayed notifications.
