Decisions to be made for ebooks.
ARCHIVE: DECISION MADE TO USE THE CZ FOR EBOOK PACKAGES.
We will probably be better able to come up with a decisions or options once we see the NZ webinars and how that functions with the CZ and IZ.
This is a reply I received from Ex Libris about e-books that are loaded into the ILS and are also available from SFX.
There is an e-book database that loaded in III by most of institutions into their ILSs, and is a good candidate to be a NZ db in Alma.
It exists in SFX and can be activated via SFX in shared institute.
The question is how better to migrate those records to avoid duplication, to use shared NZ advantages and simplify migration/activation process?
- In case when ILS records have no 035 $$a – it means that when building NZ from each IZ those records will not be contributed and will remain IZ records. If in parallel loaded into NZ as shared resources/activated from CZ in NZ - > it will be published into Primo – from NZ and IZ.
- If IZ record has OCLC number it will be contributed to NZ and likely records from other institutions will be linked to the shared NZ record. When deciding on loading/activating collection in NZ approach – to check that duplicate records are not loaded.
There are number of options (CALSTATE to check: licensing and administration, current data condition, CZ):
Option 1 – suppress IZ records; load collection to NZ (options will be discussed later)/or activate after migration in CZ ; => history kept in IZ, not published to Primo. All further records management is done in NZ.
Option 2 – update IZ records by 035 $$a prefix (SFX); load collection to NZ (options will be discussed later)/ or activate in Alma after migration in CZ => IZ records skipped (suppressed when order attached) in migration or suppressed; NZ manages resources after migration;
Option 3 – do nothing in IZ record; load only to IZ => clean-up/suppress IZ/NZ later in Alma and activate in CZ.
How shared records can be loaded into NZ (this can be decided later):
- Extracted from SFX shared environment and loaded into NZ
- Activated by Non-Exl loader form
- Activated after migration selectively from CZ
