Charge

To assist the ULMS TS Working Group Leads in the development of policies and procedures related to cataloging in the new shared environment. The Task Force will work closely with the ULMS TS Working Group Leads and in collaboration with the ULMS Workflows Manager and other TS Task Forces to complement the work in areas related to cataloging activities. The Task Force is required to provide progress reports to the Technical Services Working Group.

Goals

  • To propose policies related to cataloging;
  • To assist with the development and testing of procedures for cataloging;
  • To assist with the development of workflows for cataloging;
  • To assist with the development of training for cataloging;
  • To provide updates to the Technical Services Working Group.

2017 Objectives

  • Revise policies, best practices and procedures – Based on input from Implementation Team and TS Working Group (Ongoing)
  • Loading WCP records into NZ, including Shelf Ready – Complete instructions for setup with YBP and WorldCat Cataloging Partner (WCP), and for creating Alma Import Profiles to load WCP records into the Network Zone. Collaborate with Import Profiles/Normalization Rules Task Force. (March 1, 2017)
  • Copy cataloging procedures – Create best practices for copy cataloging either directly importing from Connexion or using an import profile to import in batch (April 3, 2017)
  • Original cataloging procedures  - Create procedures for original cataloging. Collaborate with ERM Task Force for cataloging procedures for e-resources. (April 3, 2017)
  • Publishing to OCLC - Collaborate with Systems Working Group to implement and test procedures for publishing to OCLC. (February 28, 2017)
  • Withdrawals – Create and test procedures for withdrawing items (Unlinking from the NZ in batch will be available in the Feb 2017 release) (March 30, 2017)
  • Item Record Material Types – Make recommendations regarding the use of Material Types in Alma item records. (March 15, 2017)
  • Holdings Records - Develop procedures for creation of holdings records, according to MARC Holdings Format (May 18, 2017)
  • Local series decisions – Work with Authority Control Task Force to determine best practices for how to record local series decisions. (Recommendations on use of local authorities to preserve local series decision). (TBD)
  • Marcive Gov Docs – Assess management of gov docs (Marcive) in Alma to make recommendations about approach, service, and policy needed for loading and managing gov docs workflow. (TBD)
  • Manual for Cataloging – Collaborate with ULMS Workflows Manager to create a manual documenting procedures and workflows for cataloging.  (June 1, 2017)
  • Communication -  Provide updates to TS Working Group and solicit feedback on policies and procedures. (Ongoing)
