Report Summary

1) Goals/Issues to Address:

Mandatory

  • Lag time publishing new course reserves from Alma to Primo 

  • E-reserves 

  • Difficulty of determining checkout periods in Alma Reading Lists and Primo 

  • Course reserve waitlists/holds 

  • Migrating library materials on reserve to come over with temporary AND permanent locations. (Script written by Sarina. Need campuses to test. Possibly CPSLO and Northridge) 

  • Automated feed of courses from LMS to Alma. There is a systems task force working on this.  

  • Course Reserves Workflow

  • Taking items off Course Reserve at end of term

  • Primo display–Course Information line – some items this doesn't show up, also some items where it does show up there is a "null" after the course code and name.


Issues not pursued but could if there is enough interest:

  • Recommendation on fees: Since CSUs do not sure course reserves, we did not think we needed to pursue uniform fees. 

  • Booking course reserve materials: We did not see the usefulness of this feature, as it could tie up a course reserve item with no guarantee that the “booker” would show up for the item. 

  • Instructor-entered reading lists.




Description
  • Lag time publishing new course reserves from Alma to Primo

    • Best option is an API developed by San Marcos. Details are in document on the confluence page.
  • E-reserves

    • A separate system needs to be used. See options in document on confluence page.
  • Difficulty of determining checkout periods in Alma Reading Lists and Primo

    • For campuses using multiple checkout periods for course reserves, setting up separate locations for each checkout periods has benefits for staff and patron. Instructions on how to set up are in document on Confluence Page.
  • Course reserve waitlists/holds

    • We could not find a way to do this through Alma as the minimum hold shelf period is 1 day and we would need a hold period less than 1 hour.
  • Migrating library materials on reserve to come over with temporary AND permanent locations.

    • Need campuses to test.

Action Items
  • Need volunteers to test Temporary/Permanent Location Migration.
    • Cal Poly is willing, but needs more information on what is involved to set this up.
    • Have not gotten any other takers as far as I know, though Sarina put out a call for volunteers on the Access Services Listserv.
  • Cathe is finalizing Course Reserves Workflow. Waiting for more information on:
    • Items used for multiple courses
    • Course with no specific instructor, e.g. Math Dept, Stats Dept, etc.
  • Taking items off course reserves at the end of term.
    • Currently we use the Millennium report "Items whose status should change." We are trying to find out if there is an equivalent function or report in Alma that will tell us what items to remove.
  • Primo display problems – Cathe will enter basecamp if we can't figure it out

    • Null appearing in Primo after course code and name in the Course Information Line

    • Course Information not appearing on some item
