Notes from meeting with WRLC
Appendix 2 – Meeting Notes from Aaron Krebeck call re: WRLC DSpace to Islandora Migration
Mid-2014 the Washington Research Library Consortium migrated from a customized version of DSpace to an Islandora installation. I spoke with Aaron Krebeck on 12/15/15 to gain some insight into the process, their experience with Islandora and most importantly, how well the data movement from DSpace to Islandora went.
Notes:
WRLC had 9 members in DSpace – 5 of which went into Islandora
150,000 digital objects (at about 12TB) went into Islandora. This is currently presenting no performance issues on the system.
DiscoveryGarden provided the drush scripting for the data migration process. This started before Aaron came onto the project.
Drush (requiring a manifest.json) sounds like the way to go.
Will be providing a manifester python script.
This is a single Drupal site pointing at a single Fedora with multiple namespaces
Themekey module in drupal for custom, per item them changes
Drupal Module seem to be the killer app here, making Islandora a clear standout for this project.
Carmen mentioned inviting Michael Giarlo, developer for Hydra-in-a-box to talk to group about pros and cons.
Cal Poly SLO adopted Islandora August 2015 to replace ContentDM
Elizabeth and Suzanna will start drafting a systemwide IR needs analysis survey
