Personas

Developed by SJSU DLUX group

HC: Poly did a similar exercise that they built out from library data
Top task survey: why do you use the website - bolstered the personas out with data
Partnering with a course to look at SCA content - They get a lot of community research
Journey map - just checking out a book
JS: Can we add a paragraph for OneSearch use

CL: what user focus

HC: because relevancy can be a can of worms it’s good to keep or target personas in mind

Resource and material type

Update: Secondary resource types going forward
Jill figured out coding for GovDocs SRT that removes “University Press” titles
Look at how to add to Advanced search prefilters

Discussion:

CW: what are the settings and are they standard
CL: Scholarworks ?

CW: David is working on types for ScholarWorks

Support tickets

Update: See documents on GTI cases compiled by Christina H.

Discussion:

CH: Support cases related to GTI (43 cases) - 9 times, ExLibris fixed something - 1 time ran DeDupe index - 5, fix in a release - A LOT of we can’t fix it.

FRBR and Dedupe

Update: Jill experimenting in SJSU test view
Will FRBR basically be replaced by linked data info cards for Works?
Should we focus on experiments with Dedupe control only?

Title/portfolio matching

Update: ERM group found a solution that works for e-resources which come from, or can be put into collections. The solutions involve changing ViewIt settings for e-resource collections to eliminate
Document from ERM group:

Faceting

Update: SJSU doing UX Cafe-style testing in two weeks to get student feedback on facets

Discussion:
Jill has to type up notes from UX cafe

CW: Database comes up as an argument
HC: Poly wants it on the website - 1980’s reference

CO: no one knows that that means - what’s a database?

HC: “subscription publisher platforms”
CW: but professors says you need to use library databases - very confusing for users that don’t understand - check library journal for article on top 20 words users don’t understand - our expectations vs. users' expectations
HC: bootstrap 5 on the databases - is there a request to move to this?
CW: says this is an announcement from Springshare - but not ones
CL: look for that LJ article - these do not surface well in Primo - because students will search by “CINAL + topic” and that doesn’t help
HC - uses resource recommender to have these pop up
CL: search string statistics - top performing searches - people just type in the name of the database in the campus search box

HC: I like the resource recommender
CW: Sac does add database records - but assume SEO will pick up the A-Z list metadata

HC: resource recommended is a real manual process - AI summary at the top

 Action items

Email TS forum and ask if people can share their experience with changing view settings and why you changed them?
Look into which check boxes are on in the view for each campus
Christina H. to put in ticket to ask about Comic/Graphic novel primary vs. secondary resource type display
