2023-01-09 Meeting notes

 Date

Jan 9, 2023

 Participants

  • Stacy Magedanz, Chris Bulock, David Gibbs, Holly Yu, Ann Roll

 Discussion topics

Considered our action items from last meeting:

  • Look at our model contract language examples to suggest provisions for inclusion (or change to existing language). We do not want to change the template for all CSU data acquistions, just add qualifications addressing online library subscriptions.

  • Ann will inquire about what approach would be most useful from Academic Technology’s perspective.

Ann confirmed that AT would like us to suggest language for library-specific provisions, as a sort of first draft.

 Action items

To that end, your job is look at existing model contracts and identify language you would recommend. Assignments are below; your recommendation is due by our next meeting, Feb. 6. Please copy the recommended language into row 1 of our Comparison Grid of Model License Language. Some example language is already in the grid, but you can also re-examine the LIBLICENSE: Model Licenses, the California Digital Library model license, or any other model licenses you may be aware of.

A couple of notes: Try not to pick any language that obviously conflicts with the existing CSU General Provisions for Information Technology Acquisitions. Not all provisions apply to all types of products. For example, post cancellation rights won’t apply to content aggregators.

  • Stacy – Accessibility compliance, Authentication,  training

  • Chris – Linking, Author’s rights, loss of content

  • David – Discover, click through licenses, platform change

  • Holly – Usage stats, course packs/course reserves

  • Ashley – ILL provisions, data mining

  • George – Post cancellation rights, open access

For further discussion of each point, see the 2022-12-05 minutes and 2022-11-07 minutes.
