Charge

To assist the ULMS TS Working Group Leads in the development of policies and procedures related to cataloging in the new shared environment. The Task Force will work closely with the ULMS TS Working Group Leads and in collaboration with the ULMS Workflows Manager and other TS Task Forces to complement the work in areas related to cataloging activities. The Task Force is required to provide progress reports to the Technical Services Working Group.

Goals

  • To propose policies related to cataloging;
  • To assist with the development and testing of procedures for cataloging;
  • To assist with the development of workflows for cataloging;
  • To assist with the development of training for cataloging;
  • To provide updates to the Technical Services Working Group.

2017 Objectives

  • Revise policies based on feedback from Implementation Team - ongoing
  • Loading WCP records into NZ – Complete instructions for setup with YBP and WorldCat Cataloging Partner (WCP), and for creating Alma Import Profiles to load WCP records into the Network Zone. Collaborate with Import Profiles/Normalization Rules Task Force.
  • Copy cataloging procedures – Create best practices for copy cataloging either directly importing from Connexion or using an import profile to import in batch
  • Original cataloging in batch - Create procedures for batch loading of original cataloging such as ETDs and loading using import profiles. Collaborate with ERM Task Force for cataloging procedures for e-resources.
  • Material Types – Make recommendations regarding the use of Material Types in Alma
  • Training – Solicit feedback from TS Working Group on procedures and training needed.
  • Local series decisions – Work with Authority Control Task Force to determine best practices for how to record local series decisions
  • Withdrawals – Create procedures for withdrawing items (Unlinking from the NZ in batch will be available in the Feb 2017 release)
  • Manual for Cataloging – Create a manual documenting procedures and workflows for cataloging.
