Copyright Statement

Rapido has a built in place where you can add a Copyright Statement to the Rapido request form. The Rapido Testing Task Force has reviewed many statements used by resource sharing departments and found many use the following statement from the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations:

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

There are two places you can add this statement so patrons will see it when they place a request. You can put the text in the “Resource Sharing Copyright Declaration” or “Note to Patron” fields. If you put the statement in the “Resource Sharing Copyright Declaration” field the patron will be required to check a box agreeing to the statement. If you add the statement to the “Note to Patron” field it will be visible but does not require the patron to click any boxes. The Rapido Testing Task Force recommends putting the statement in the “Note to Patron” field to reduce clicks.

Adding or Editing the Note to Patron

To add or edit the “Note to Patron” field go to Alma Configuration → Resource Sharing → Request Forms → Note to Patron. There are places to add a note to either the Physical Request form or Digital Request form. You will want to add the statement to the Digital Request form. It isn’t necessary for the Physical Request form. To add or edit the Digital Request message click the ellipsis for discoveryDigitalRequestMessage.html.

After you reach the next page just drop the statement in the Content box and click save. The note should now appear in Primo VE on the Rapido request form for digital requests.

Adding or Editing the Resource Sharing Copyright Declaration Page

If you want to put the statement in the “Resource Sharing Copyright Declaration” field go to Alma Configuration → Resource Sharing → Request Forms → Resource Sharing Copyright Declaration. On the next page simply paste the statement in the Content box and click save. The statement will now appear in Primo VE accompanied by a required check box.

Removing Copyright Statement

If you decide to change where you are displaying the copyright statement you might want to remove the statement from where you previously displayed it. To delete the statement follow the same directions as when you added it and delete the text. You will then want to leave a single space where the text previously was because Alma requires something to be in the content box. Save the changes to make the text and any associated check boxes disappear.
