NAR Requests

If your campus does not have any NACO Funnel Project participants, but you need to have a name authority record created, you may submit a name authority record request. Please be sure to include PDFs/screenshots of the title page, jacket blurbs, or front/end matter containing relevant information about the person or corporate body.

Additionally, if the entity for whom you need a NAR is local to your campus (e.g. faculty member), please make an effort to obtain as much relevant distinguishing information as they are willing to share.

Submit NAR Request (Google sign-in required)

You can follow the progress of your request on the NAR Requests Trello board.

NACO Submission For Review Instructions

New or edited NARs should be saved to the online save file

Action → Save Record to Online File

Authorities → Search Online Save File

Select or open record you are submitting

Action → Submit for Review

When submitting for review, please use the following institution symbols in OCLC Connexion: DLC;SCB

To notify our reviewers that new work is ready for review, please email both rculbertson@ucsd.edu and pfrank@loc.gov with your surname and MARC institution code in the subject header (e.g. Barber, CFIS)

In the email text, please include the save file #’s of the NAR(s)

In the NAR, please input your name and institution in a 690 note field, along with any comments or queries for the reviewer (e.g. ‘wasn’t 100% sure about the 374 field, is it OK?’) – Becky Culbertson will respond to these via email

When your NAR(s) have been approved, please:

a) search the NAF again to ensure a NAR has not been added in the intervening period – due to the vibrancy of the NACO community this can and does happen

b) remove the 690

c) re-validate the record

d) Action > Add to Authority File
