Holds and Recalls
Policy Statement:
COLD recommends that all CSU libraries stop placing holds and recalls on checked out items.
If an item is currently checked out the patron should be encouraged to place a Resource Sharing request.
Library staff may still place holds and recalls.
Primo should be configured to display RS link automatically to patron if copies are all checked out.
Rationale:
This policy is in place to ensure the most efficient service is provided to CSU library users.
Patrons will likely receive items faster by requesting them through CSU+ instead of waiting for a local copy to be returned. Having a policy in place discouraging holds and recalls encourages staff and library users to utilize resources available from other CSUs to fulfill their needs in a timely manner.
Procedural Clarification:
Patrons are encouraged to place a resource sharing (CSU+ and Interlibrary Loan) request if their home library copy is checked out.
Items that are needed for Course Reserves can still be recalled by library staff.Â
