Discussion items

ItemNotes

Open forum topics from the Fulfillment committee

Visiting patron procedures

  • Cal Poly had a visiting patron and figured out what to do on the fly.
  • What user groups should be included in our visiting patron processes?
  • Emeritus access to CSU+?

Two issues at play here

  1. philisophical issue: what visiting patron types should have access to various services at the campus they are visiting?
  2. logistical issue: how to implement this? what procedures need to be followed? How do they authenticate at the visiting campus? what happens when there is no account at the home library?

Lost items for CSU+/Interlibrary Loan

  • Block issue was sent to coordinating committee - nothing has been heard. Updated the policy documentation with the information about why the blocks are problematic.
  • Mallory will share what she got from the other consortia
  • Joint task force to create documentation and specify procedures: vmunda@csulb.edu (Unlicensed), Jamie Lamberti (Unlicensed), Carolyn Chun (Unlicensed)Stacy Caron (Unlicensed)
  • Also looking at getting something done to report on in the April meeting. Procedures may not be totally nailed down by then but a page on the wiki should be created and accessible noting what has been figured out and what information is pending by the April open meeting.

Resource Sharing policy overview

  • Policies being discussed by the coordinating committee today.
  • Will share updates at the open meeting.

General discussion (not for open forum)

CSU+ overdues and notices

Should we designate specific letter templates to CSU+? Should csu+ notices be uniform across campuses?

There are some concerns about how quickly the CSU+ policy marks items as lost. 14 days seems very fast.

  • Fresno, LA and SJSU have the 14 days to lost in place already and haven't experienced any adverse effects
  • Communication is key for this quick time frame of marking things as lost.

Since the communication aspect is so important we want to be sure everyone is set up to send out notices quickly and accurately to adhere to the approved COLD policy.

Encouraging CSU+ over ILLiad - what suggestions does FFC have?

Tabled - we only had 3 minutes left but want to talk about this more.

Chris Lee (Unlicensed) and Natasha Allen (Unlicensed) began talking about GES and how this can be set up to more accurately and adequately make the CSU+ link visible and suppress the ILLiad link. They'll send out to the ulms-access listserv to encourage discussion/adoption of this solution

Matthew Prutsman (Unlicensed) suggested a "sleek and sexy" bookmark to put into ILLiad requests saying "you could have gotten this from CSU+ faster" to catch the legacy ILLiad users who just go there first (without even looking at the catalog)
