Quarantining Returned Items

  • Develop procedures:

    • Determine when items will be quarantined (pre or post check-in)

    • Quarantine for a minimum of 3 days  before shelving or loaning

    • When possible, do not stack items. Stacked items may need up to a 6 day quarantine per REALM test 4.

    • Quarantine items away from high traffic areas

  • Use gloves and mask when handling books, wash hands frequently

  • Advertise check-in and requesting expectations in notices, near book returns, on webpage, and other public areas (i.e. All returned items will be quarantined for up to one week prior to being returned)

Restaffing Libraries

  • Organize workspace according to social distancing guidelines

  • Identify and mark out areas for traffic flow

  • Keep ample stock of anti-bacterial gel and wipes for staff

  • Create cleaning procedures for shared spaces and equipment and ensure continuous stock of cleaning supplies

  • Consider creating protocols for shared spaces:

    • Office use

    • Bathroom use

    • Elevator use

    • Breakroom use

    • Cross-departmental interactions

Reopening Libraries

  • Consider safety measures such as sneeze guards and plexiglass sheets stationed at public service counters

  • Keep ample stock of anti-bacterial gel and wipes for both staff and users

  • Create protocols for contactless checkout and pick up

  • Use line stanchions, floor markers, and signs to designate staff & public areas, traffic patterns, and to maintain social distancing.
