Project Management

  • Working with Ex Libris and members of the ULMS committees on a plan to evaluate Primo VE in early 2021. More info on this will be forthcoming.

  • There will be a satisfaction survey sent out in early October to all CSU library staff and librarians and to the ULMS committees. This survey will be very similar to the surveys sent out last fall and are aimed at capturing the major issues involving Alma and Primo in the CSU.

  • Chris Lee has accepted our Resource Sharing Manager position, and will be starting at the Chancellor’s Office on October 12. Chris comes to us from Utah State, where he served as Electronic Resources Librarian. Prior to that, Chris was a Resource Sharing Specialist at San Luis Obispo. During his time at Cal Poly, Chris served as the first chair of the ULMS Resource Sharing Working Group, and was pivotal to the successful implementation of CSU+. He has his MLIS from San Jose State.  Please join us in welcoming Chris!

Analytics

Working Group

  • New Analytics platform is in place (OBI). The Comm is keeping an eye on existing reports and reporting any errors found to ExL as they run across them.

  • Primo analytics will be upgraded in November. There will be a freeze period prior to the update - email notice will go out prior to the beginning of the upgrade to save any reports any individual may have in Primo analytics.

Resource Management

Working Group

  • Discussions over two policies continue:

    • Putting parameters around import profiles in the NZ to define what match points are used when bringing records into the Network Zone

    • Guidance for when and how to use the 988 NO DEDUP field in the NZ

    • Report containing recommendations from the Authority Control Task Force to begin preferred term cleanup under discussion and will be brought to the Steering Committee in October.

Acquisitions

Chancellor’s Office

  • Continued updating of Network Zone Licenses after agreements have been renewed.

    • Working with SDLC on continued updates of title lists and signed agreements in the NZ licenses.

  • Working with Ex Libris to fix an issue with the NZ Licenses.

    • The price information gets erased after the date range is updated for the fiscal year.

Working Group

  • Worked with Ex Libris on POL Line Type editing issues.

  • Gave a presentation on fiscal close in Alma in a Tech Services Open Forum near the end of the fiscal year in June.

  • Continued work on the Acquisitions Getting Started wiki page.

    • Updating areas and functions that have changed since the document was initially created.

    • Updated the Acquisition contacts page on the wiki.

  • Discussing how each campus has implemented PeopleSoft payment integration and how each campus processes

  • Gathering info about who is using GOBI and how it is used for ordering

  • Catrina Mancha with CSUSB will try and put together a brief discussion on how her library is moving towards electronic resources.

ERM

Chancellor’s Office

  • Continued work on implementing CDI in the Network Zone.  Group Settings for CDI NZ collections will be an on-going process for the semester.

  • Continued troubleshooting for CDI-related issues.

  • During the Spring semester, there were approximately 120 COVID-19 resources available in the Network Zone.  These were collections opened up, free of charge, by the vendor, and activated in the NZ.

    • Currently JSTOR and HeinOnline are the two vendors that have extended access to their resources.  Access will end in December 2020.

Working Group

  • We are continuing to grapple with the CDI implementation and developing advice for campuses on issues as they arise, and are currently testing a few things in regards to ebooks and CDI but have not met to discuss the outcome of the testing yet.  We are coordinating the Sept. 24th TS Open Forum to be a panel discussion about CDI, with likely 4 panelists, 3 currently confirmed.

Resource Sharing

Working Group

  • Held two joint open forums at the end of July with FFC on restarting services for the fall semester. We demonstrated some of the steps required for restarting CSU+, how to configure ILLiad as a lender of last resort, how to configure Alma’s personal delivery feature to enable home delivery and more. Both old and new RSFC members participated and also a presentation from a Discovery member.

    • Created resource sharing quarantine guidelines and published to Confluence: Quarantine Guidelines

    • Presented data snapshot of CSU+ since restart on I-SPIE TV. Here’s an updated version: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1zfeJD6xBrS4jJ8W2-WRlaZsl6R6YhhTC6itrD0dkMn4/edit?usp=sharing

    • Working on getting new RSFC members set up in the sandboxes so that we will be ready to test new enhancements.

    • Joe Gerdeman will be taking over management of courier problem reports from Joe Adkins. He will begin sending monthly summary of problems reported to Eddie Choy at the CO beginning of each month.

    • CSU+ restart – a little bit rocky in the beginning but things are smoothing out. Had some issues with campuses not receiving lending requests that have now been resolved. Some campuses ended up starting later than they had anticipated. Some campuses started and then had to stop because of the fires. 15 campuses are now successfully lending and borrowing. The other 9 have not yet committed to restarting.

Fulfillment

Working Group

  • Created Recommendations for Reopening & Quarantining Items

    • Created a Fulfillment Services Spreadsheet to keep track of services offered across the CSU during Fall 2020.

    • Formed a Locker Task Force to consolidate and organize information for the configuration and use of lockers for book pick-up. Information will be posted to the wiki.

    • Working on documentation for updating due dates in bulk, to be posted on the wiki soon.

    • Continuing work to summarize Course Reserve Survey conducted in Fall 2019.

Discovery

Chancellor’s Office

  • The CO is implementing an OAI-PHM pipe to bring ScholarWorks records into Primo for discovery. There will be more on this work at the Oct 8 Tech Services Open Forum.

Working Group

  • In July and August, the Norm Rule Joint Task Force completed Renorm 2020-A and 2020-B, which focused on a number of issues with related titles, citations, and adjusting the resource types for Alma records to correspond to the new resource types in CDI.

    • We’ve had two meetings to date in 20-21, the notes of which are on the Discovery space on confluence:

    • At those meetings we set some priorities and discussed our assigned priority from Brandon and Dave: the evaluation of Primo VE.

      • Other priorities:

        • Discuss status and continuing development of the custom GetIt/Uresolver menu

        • Update APA CSL file to 7th edition (done)

        • Provide documentation about a COVID19 banner in Primo (done)

        • Discuss UX/UI implications of covid19-related pickup options in Primo

        • Potentially introduce custom resource type icons in Primo to solve problem of lack of 1-to-1 representation in default ExL icons

    •  The first Discovery Open Forum of the 20 – 21 academic year was on Friday, September 18.
