Recap of MWG meeting

All

• Meeting with MWG was overall successful; good dialogue between each group

• DAWG team members do wonder if perhaps there is not enough focus on DAMS metadata currently and proposed connecting with Lia about setting some timelines, action items, and maybe committing one of their member to work on a MAP with one of our members (or a small group of some sort to focus just on DAMS metadata)

• MWG is very focused on metadata remediation for the IR currently so we need to highlight and bring forward our needs on the DAMS side

System wide Digital Preservation

Erik, Eric

• Great draft from Eric and Eric, discussed aligning the document with workflows and tools

• Eric is going to draft what that would look like and send to the group for feedback

• Steve discussed having a strong workflow document for stabilizing physical media that he can send along

• Discussed adding digital preservation questions to DAMS Self Eval but determined that we only need to know so much right now and to keep the questions within scope, the DAMS Self Eval group will discuss this further as well

DAMS Self-evaluation

Beth

• Discussed adding in probing questions about current DAMS commitments, storage, costs either as beginning section with general questions or as individual sections using the tiered answer process

• Determined that some questions can be short, general, and simple data gathering

• The question of cost could likely be it’s own whole section

• DAMS Self Eval group is going to meet and discuss further/more in-depth

• Planning to circulate widely between the week before finals through January

Planning for sustainability, cost, storage

All

• Hoping that the added DAMS Eval questions start to tease out some known information to then help us build formulas for assessing costs

• Alyssa is going to look back at how this was approached for the IR

• Discussed what cost can mean: staff, storage, complementary systems, development outside of the CSU, etc.

• Hyrax environment set up: slow progress but overall beneficial;

• Annual meeting: reminded about Carmen’s call for a host campus; Any further questions feel free to reach out to Carmen. Annual meeting is planned for Summer 2021 (here is the timeline for the hosting process)
