Fall Training Starts This Week

There will be two parallel webinar training series beginning this week, one managed by Ex Libris and one managed by Sarina and Mallory from the CO.

The Ex Libris fall functional calls are planned weekly on Thursdays from 9-10:30a starting this week (Sept 15) and continuing through the rest of the calendar year. They will cover topics on the August workshop agenda that weren’t covered fully or at all during that time as well as other topics requested by attendees after the workshop conclusion.  Unlike the summer Alma functional calls, these will focus on delivery of information in a training format rather than the Q&A format of the summer calls. Topics are being finalized as you read this and will be shared shortly with your Project Managers.

The CSU webinars consist of two components:

  1. A webinar on a specific task in Alma given by a small group of presenters from the CSU libraries
    1. We are looking for volunteers to present on topics at each of the planned webinars and will be reaching out to most of you over the next couple of weeks to help educate your fellows throughout the CSU!
  2. Office Hours with Mallory and Sarina
    1. Office Hours will be casual and driven by questions from attendees in the functional area of focus for the week.

The schedule is as follows, subject to presenter schedule:

Section 1: 9/12-9/23 Administration

Webinar: Wednesday 9/14, 1p-2p, calstate.zoom.us/my/mdebartolo

Primo Functional Call series in October

Ex Libris will be holding a series of functional calls each Thursday in October from 1p-2p. These calls will focus on Q&A for topics ranging from Primo administration to record publishing to views, labels and scoping and are aimed at those of you who are responsible for maintaining your Primo instance. These calls will be recorded and available on Confluence for one and all to enjoy.

Shibboleth (Authentication) Update

At the end of August, we began the initial configuration and testing of Shibboleth.  Progress in this area has been a little slow, as Ex Libris has been addressing a few issues on their end after the recent upgrade of Primo.  But we expect those issues to be resolved soon and testing to continue in earnest this week and next.  David will be reaching out to the campus project managers and Systems Working Group later this week to follow-up.

PeopleSoft Update

The Chancellor’s Office CMS team has completed initial work on the script and process for the systemwide patron load process.  The vanguard campuses will now be testing the script to check that it is working as expected.  Their feedback, which should be completed by October 15, will inform a last round of changes to the script before general release.  It is our expectation that the script will be made available to all campuses in December.  It comes with nearly 50 pages of documentation and instructions, and so should be fairly easy for your campus PeopleSoft group to implement.

If you would like to keep up-to-date on the latest news regarding these and other third-party integration projects, consider attending the Systems Working Group, which meets the first Wednesday of each month at 3:00 PM via Zoom, hosted by Lauren @ Northridge: https://csun.zoom.us/j/8214800901.

Take care,

Brandon
