Background
The document describes both the WorldCat Collection Manager that is used to create the daily files of new and updated WorldCat records for CSU Libraries, and the Alma Network Zone (NZ) import profiles that are used to load the updated records into the NZ.
Overview
CSU has a collection defined in WorldCat Collection Manager that includes all WorldCat bibliographic records that have title-level holdings attached by one or more CSU libraries. WorldCat Collection Manager uses this collection to create daily files of new and updated WorldCat bib records which are made available to CSU for loading into the Alma Network Zone.
- "New" records are defined as any WorldCat record that has a title-level holdings attached by the first CSU library, i.e., it previously did not have title-level holdings attached by any CSU library.
- "Updated" records have had a change made that meets the criteria we, CSU Libraries, have defined in WorldCat Collection Manger as a change of interest. (To be determined)
Note: WorldCat Collection Manager also creates a file of "Delete" records which are records which have had the last CSU library title-level holding removed. We have chosen not to load these delete-status records as there is too great a chance that records, such as child records in a bound-with relationship, would be inappropriately deleted from Alma. Ex Libris is currently developing a batch tool requested by Orbis that will be able to create a set of NZ bib records which have no attached inventory, POLs, requests, work orders, etc. AND are not a child record in a bound-with relationship (i.e., are pointed to be a 774 field in an NZ bib record). Ex Libris expects this tool to be ready prior to the end of 2016.
