10minPrimo facets/formatsMarcus Jun (Unlicensed)
  • I updated and edited formats/facets in Primo back office.
  • I think most of them work well and accurately describe the resource.
  • Here is a google doc listing the new/revised format/facets

Issues

  • Some format/facets have incorrect icons.
    • Tried to update central package (with new icons) in Primo sandbox back office but got validation error:
      • file type ds_store is not allowed in zip file.
    • Maybe I have to add icons in Primo BO production?
  • New/revised formats don’t appear in advanced search in the material type drop-down.
    • (Maybe I have to configure another table in BO?)
  • After format/facet re-alignment, a resource might probably have fewer facets
    • Some definitions have been made more narrow
  • Microform and gov docs remain as facets-only and are not formats.
    • Because a monograph on microform is a book and a monograph published by a government agency is a book.
    • I think microform and gov docs are more useful to the user as facets.
  • DVD/Blu-ray combo packs.
    • Movies are often sold in a combo pack (DVD + Blu-ray) so the corresponding bib record encodes the characteristics of both.
    • Plus a library’s inventory may vary; a library could have the DVD and/or Blu-ray copy of the movie.
    • Additionally, Primo may dedupe/merge the various bib records.
    • Result: difficult to use Primo facets/format to narrow down blu-ray or dvd movies.
10minBrowse subjectsMarcus Jun (Unlicensed)
  • Still a work in progress.
    • Desired vocabularies (LC, nasat) appear in browse
    • But undesired vocabularies (FAST) continue to display even though the norm rules should be excluding them.
    • See Google doc.
  • Looked at other Primo institutions:
    • Univ WA, Emory Univ browse by many subject vocab beyond LC
    • Univ WI Madison uses a custom subject browse?
    • UC Davis uses LCSH and MeSH only.

      • But their bib records only have LCSH and MeSH whereas we have all the subjects in the Worldcat master record.

  • Might end up just leaving browse subject as is. even if some fast headings appear, you can still browse by LC.
5minCapturing documentationDavid Walker

We have a lot of good information in Google docs.

Capture them in some way? Move them into Confluence?

David will circle back with Marcus and Israel.
