Notes
Title norm rule change to fix duplicate display of 130 and 245 in title field for serials created several new problems:
- Monographic records with a 130 and 245 |a and |b only show the subtitle (245|b).
- About 30k monographic records with 130 and only 245|a resulted in no title at all, and therefore failed the title integrity constraint.
- These failed records -- including the example record from #6 below – did not update, and therefore continue to show the previous mapping
Changes
Change # refers to corresponding card # on the Trello Board.
# | Problem | Expected result | Problem notes | Examples | Change notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
4 | Corporate entities listed under authors | No corporate entities that are FAST cataloging data | Those with $5 should not be displayed. | Gone with the wind | Fixed. 4, 5, 6, and 12 all involved the suppression of FAST, foreign language, and local library subject headings and added entry fields. |
5 | Date ranges are appearing under Topic | No date ranges should appear under subject | This date range is in MARC 648, which should be suppressed as should all FAST elements | Nietzsche and Morality | See 4. |
6 | Genre values are duplicative | Only one set of genre values | FAST genre values should be suppressed | Cradle Will Rock | See 4. |
7 | Genre values are malformed in display | Require delimiting mark (semicolon) between terms, and to be linked | Cradle Will Rock | Half-complete. The genre values should now be properly delimited, but are yet to be made into lateral links. We will be addressing the linking of fields in the 2017-B renorm. | |
8 | Local subject display is malformed and only appears when you load the page for the second time. | Should be term grouping delimiters (dash) and should appear initially. | In the MARC, the 690 field value is duplicated (because of the merged records): 690 ##$aDissertations, Academic$zCSUN$xArt.$9LOCAL 690 ##$aDissertations, Academic$zCSUN$xArt.$9LOCAL$A01CALS_UNO Try searching Dissertations academic csun education -- you will get a list of theses, and the local subject will only appear on page refresh. | Longing for Maman | Is a bug, and there are multiple SalesForce tickets for this. |
9 | Theses Note and Publisher as same element | Theses note should not be repeated as publisher | The norm rule needs to be written to parse out the publisher and publication date | A survey of costume elements as depicted on monumental Olmec sculpture | Fixed. |
10 | Contributors listed with authors In details section | Authors only | Contibutors (7XX) should be listed under a separate Contributors field in the details section (and linked). (Not a norm rule issue. This is controlled in Views - Creator / Contributor is combined in one display line. CO will make change for all campuses.). | See also UMW example | Requires a configuration change in the views, rather than a normalization rule change. |
11 | Metadata of merged records not deduped -- series statement duplicated with e-holdings and print-holdings | Only one series statement should be displayed | (CM - not sure if this is possible, need to consult EL). From Luiz: Series display is inconsistent across records. Here is a possible solution: If 490-8XX fields are present, use the 8XX as the SERIES, even if the 490 is used for the Description field. Or do not display. If the the record only has a 490, then display this only under the Related title (not hyperlinked) and do not display as series (hyperlinked). The difference would be: 490 = Related title series (only) ; 490-8XX (800, 810, 811, 830) = Related title series and Series (hyperlinked) | A guide to the Harry Potter novels | Under investigation. |
12 | Foreign subject terms appear under facets and in record | No foreign terms | Foreign, FAST, and other subject, genre headings should be suppressed as per Suppression of MARC Fields document. | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (video) | See 4. |
13 | Local authors (in 952 field) not indexed and not retrievable. Field is displaying under author. | To retrieve authors input in 952 field. | See MMS ID 991008704019702914 Title: DNQ 952: Wayne, Taral, 1951- Indicates that we need to index 952 with 100 and 7xx | DNQ | Fixed. |
14 | Linking relationships in serials records input in 76X-78X fields currently display as Related Titles, but should also display in separate field and title should be hyperlinked. | To be able to retrieve earlier/later titles; other formats, etc. from hyperlinked titles displayed in the record for the appropriate relationship. | See example from UM-Wisconsin where earlier title displays in a separate field and hyperlinked. Compare that record with the same title in Northridge. | Journal of library metadata | Pushed to Renorm 2017-B. |
15 | In both the Results list and the Top display of records, all authors and contributors, displayed under title with no punctuation added for clarity: | Records with multiple authors display with comma and semicolon separating them ; but many records do not. Inconsistent punctuation. Is this a new problem? | Here is how it is displaying now: Book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix J. K. Rowling author Mary GrandPré illustrator. | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (video) | Appears to be a bug. |
16 | 580 notes (Linking Entry Complexity Note) is not displaying. | Note would display under Description. | Many serial records include that note. | Harper's weekly | Fixed. |
17 | Unsure if libraries benefit from Dewey call number (082 field in MARC record) displaying as Identifier. | Fine to display, but I (Luiz) cannot remember if display of Dewey call number was requested by any library. | Under investigation. | ||
18 | Some journal titles display without correct spacing between words within title. (Known issue by Ex Libris: to be fixed in August!) | Correct title display with appropriate spacing between the words. | Same problem reported by Fresno, Sonoma. | Nature physical science | Under investigation. |
