Item types

Lia

Look at types and decide which we want to use

Decided on DCMI terms: https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/

Will present this to DRC and generate genre terms

Post-migration clean up tasks

David

Some initial tasks for your consideration:

  • normalized date for date facet

    • date_available

    • date_copyright

    • date_issued

    • date_submitted

  • separate abstract from descriptive notes

    • description_note (not in data dictionary)

  • separate degree type from degree level

    • set level based on type?

  • identifiers

    • fix the ones that have already gone in with the same predicates (e.g.,bakersfield, fullerton)

    • separate out the other campuses that have all identifiers in same identifier field

  • remove new-line xml characters

Update on review of copyright fields

Melissa

Based on DRC feedback: implement a universal copyright statement, with at most two fields in the work forms

Suggestion for revised explanatory note for Title field

Melissa

  1. “You can use sentence case or title case capitalization. At this time, we will not be able to replicate any special formatting such as italics in ScholarWorks.”

  2. Question: Could Notch8 work on a rich text editor for title and abstract fields? An italics option is especially important.

Need to address inconsistencies with the date field

Melissa

It is currently impossible to sort or filter records by date. Could we prioritize clean-up of that field and either request only the year or implement multiple fields/a date picker to accommodate month and date?

Update on degree language standardization

Lia

Degree level (required) - faceted

https://dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#educationLevel

Masters

Doctoral

Undergraduate

Degree name (not required) - not faceted

Options:

Abbreviate - MA or M.A.

Full - Master of Arts  OR  Masters of Arts

Recommendation: Initialized with periods, ex. M.A. or M.S.

New Trello tickets

Lia

Important: diversity in name representation

Family Name, Given Name (R)

Another option: Name (R)

Alternate Name (NR)
