CSU+ Recommendations for Operations During Holiday Closures

By Stacy Caron (Edited by Mallory debartolo Nov 2019)

Some of the changes may require help from your system administrators and should be implemented before request processing staff leave for break.

CSU+ Expiration Dates

  • Turn off the "Requests - Handle Expiration Step" job. Depending on how you have your request pickup rules configured (or not configured, allowing the default to kick in) this job may mark items requested for CSU+ lending as missing after 7 days on the pick from shelf list. To avoid this, turn the job off before leaving for break. Turn it back on when you return in January. For more about this job see the ExL knowledge article here.

To turn off the job go to Configuration > Fulfillment > General > Fulfillment Jobs Configuration. Find the job in the list and select Inactive:

  • The CSU+ lending request expiration dates in Alma will be removed during the holiday closure. This will keep CSU+ lending requests with the first partner in the rota during our library closure instead of moving the request through the rota and being cancelled while no one is available to process requests. The temporary change will be made in the Network Zone and distributed to all libraries on December 17th. No action is needed from individual libraries.
  • Note: since request expiration is turned off there is no need to turn off Lending or Borrowing while the library is closed for the holidays.

Patron Request Form

Recommended action:

  • Campuses may want to change the CSU+ link in OneSearch to alert patrons to possible delays. Instructions on how to change the label can be found on the CSU+ OneSearch Label guide.
  • No other changes to the request form are required as patrons may continue to submit requests as they have done during the semester/quarter.

 Result:

  • The incoming requests will remain in a library’s active request queue in Alma and will be processed when the library re-opens.

Considerations for this action:

  • Patrons can continue requesting materials in the same manner. Hiding the CSU+ request form would force patrons to submit requests via ILLiad. Most request would sit unprocessed in ILLiad until staff returns. ILLiad requests typically have a longer delivery time since most are coming from libraries outside of the CSU system and are delivered via the US Postal Service.

Library Calendar Open Hours

Recommended action:

Result:

  • Due dates for CSU+ materials for dates the library is closed will not be assigned
