CDI Mapping and Configuration
Below are options for activating CDI search rights and Full Text linking. There are some best practices suggested by Ex Libris that help with making decisions on activating CDI Search and Linking. Ex Libris has published a page on CDI mapping and configuration on their Knowledge Center site.
The CDI Collection List is helpful for seeing which collections are available in CDI and what each setting means for that CDI collection.
Link-in-Record is also known as “Direct Linking.” “First Search” is the same as searching “My institution” or the local library holdings. In Ex Libris terminology, it would be First Search vs Expanded Search (include records from other libraries in search results).
Databases in Alma that are activated for the CDI records and do not have any portfolios, will not appear in the local holdings in Primo. Only those resources that have portfolios will appear in the local scope in VE. Examples: ERIC, Dissertations, Web of Science database.
See NZ CDI settings below.
Full Text Linking in CDI Type = LinkResolver (Subscribed to Alma e-collection) | Option 1: CDI Search is active & ”Full Text Available” label appears
| Option 2: CDI Search is active but ”Full Text Available” label does not appear
| Option 3: CDI Search is inactive- No CDI Records in Expanded Search results |
---|---|---|---|
Desired outcome in Primo | CDI records appear in Primo with “Full Text Available” if the library subscribes to that title in Alma. | CDI records appear in Primo but will not have a “Full Text Available” label in expanded search results. Other options appear, such as ILL. | CDI records for the collection do not appear in Primo expanded search results. |

Full Text Linking in CDI Type= LinkResolver (OA or not subscribed to an Alma e-collection) | Option 1: CDI search is active & ”Full Text Available” label does not appear
| Option 2: CDI search is active & ”Full Text Available” label appears (example: OA e-collections) | Option 3: CDI Search: Requires a subscription to search CDI. Best practice- deactivate Alma/CDI collection because searching CDI requires subscription. |

CDI in NZ:
All libraries automatically inherit the Alma full text collections in CDI.
Libraries do not automatically inherit CDI records for Alma database-only e-collections.
Message in IZ “This institution is not inheriting Network Zone CDI activations” means the library is not inheriting CDI records for database-only Alma e-collections.
Needs to be configured to inherit in IZ.
All link-in-record linking type in CDI NZ e-collections: “CDI-only full text activation” = checked
Based on Ex Libris recommendations.
If there is partial open access (OA) in a CDI collection, the CDI full text linking will be removed (Do Not Show Full Text available in CDI even if active in Alma = checked). If there is full text from Alma, the full text link will appear in the full record.
Group settings are being added to all CDI settings according to subscription settings in the Alma group settings. If a library does not subscribe to an Alma e-collection, the library will receive the CDI records in the search results, but will not see the “full text available” message in the Primo search results. If a library does subscribe to an Alma e-collection, both CDI search activation will be active and the “full text available” label will appear in the Primo search results.
