ScholarWorks Update - April 2020

Here’s the latest on the ScholarWorks project.

Positions

Our Digital Repository Developer recruitment is on hold until the summer, as part of a general hiring ‘chill’ at the Chancellor’s Office. However, we are happy to announce that we have secured approval to keep Kevin on board as a contractor until we refill the position.

Vendor

Notch8 has been focused on analyzing our data migration process, profiling the different steps along the way, and have suggested changing some of the components in the derivatives generation process (i.e, for creating things like thumbnails) that should produce significant speed improvements.

Once that work is complete, they will turn to the various development tasks outlined in the RFP, and are putting together timelines for those. At this point, we are still on track to complete the development work by the original June 30th deadline.

Data migration

In April, we blazed through the production data migrations for Channel Islands, East Bay, Maritime, and Bakersfield. We’ve completed the test load for Fresno, the largest repository to date, and will be running that in May. The calendar now has the latest timelines.
