ScholarWorks Update

Kevin Cloud

  • ScholarWorks update

    • migrations running smoothly - Going as fast as we can! ¾ of the way done with Sacramento! Funkiness with migrations...derivatives are generated on the fly, and not working as expected right now. Need to have a conversation about the upcoming tasks!

    • san marcos authentication complete. YAY! Continuing to work on implementation -  working on campus specific requirements. Several implementation phases and finishing up will include UI development and implementation. Dave Walker to move over from ULMS to assist with SW. There will be a baseline UI from the CO, and then each campus can do their own UI. Q: Will we be able to see what other campuses are doing? Not sure what we don’t know...Not sure of the design features that are available.

    • use the Hyrax demo site to see what is available and out there. As implementations go live, the links are going live on the CSU CO Confluence site.

  • OJS update

    • working on test/prod implementations; looking for functional requirements - Open Journal Systems. If you want an account, ask Kevin! Moved to a test and production machine for OJS. Looking to move into production. How will the requirements impact how we are setting things up.

    • If you are interested, talk to the Publishing IG. If you are ready to set up a journal/try out OJS, talk to Kevin.

Review of 2018-2019 projects

Kevin

  • Migrations to Hyrax -- Dspace, ContentDM, Islandora, other campus systems

  • Production implementation for Hyrax -- Authentication, features, (features have to be configured and turned on, so it takes some work….) interface design - currently have the default interface, the CO interface, and then each campus can make their own if they have the staff/skills.

  • Service integrations -- OAI-PMH, ORCID, SWORD, Audio/Video streaming - Some of these things have community developed integrations available.

  • Scholarworks open services -- OJS, OMP, Scalar -- What other services are there?

Dana-Publishing IG:

  • Conduct a CSU-wide survey to identify current publishing programs and practices, and to learn about aspirational projects

  • Identify a suite of recommended open source platforms, tools, and support guidelines. The interest group will share our findings with the ScholarWorks community, with the hope of assisting additional CSU libraries to support online journals and other forms of digital scholarship

  • Create documentation for workflow processes and best practices for journal publishing within the CSU.

Carmen - Faculty Profiles:  pretty much on hold until after the migrations are completed.

Lauren - Metadata/Linked Data:

  • Evaluate and edit the previously formulated CSU schemas for Theses and Dissertations, Journals

  • Formulate a recommendation as to whether and how ORCID should be integrated into Samvera

  • Explore feasibility and write justification for CO metadata support position

  • Webinar on metadata / RDF / linked open data

  • Draft a position paper paper on the value of linked data for the CSU, specifically for faculty research / data management plans.

Mark - Trusted Repositories:

  • AB 2192, by codifying CSU ScholarWorks in California law, raises the visibility and stakes for public accountability

  • Freshly updated charge on Confluence with goals that are ongoing and deliverables specific to AY 2018-2019 and 2019-2020

  • Ongoing:

    • Assist with and present at annual CSU IR meeting

    • Provide advice on auditing tools (such as TRAC, DCC, DMPTool)

    • Analyzing threats and risks and making these transparent

  • AY 2018-2019:

    • Gather Trusted Repository standards and resources from external sources

    • Create a spreadsheet with repository audit criteria

    • Develop a model timeline/roadmap for future audit cycles

  • AY 2019-2020:

    • Perform an audit on a selected subset of CSU repositories and report results

    • Prepare a recommended roadmap for transition to next generation repository

    • Assemble and formulate internal standards and resources for Trusted Repositories

  • Up to five members and happy to have more

  • Planning to meet via Zoom monthly

Tanya - Digital Archives:

  • Explore the scope of interest in participation and potential implementation throughout the CSU

  • Proposal for CO hosting for ArchivesSpace, including migration support

Announcements& Questions

Kevin Cloud

  • Question for Kevin: Did COLD get any news regarding their budget requests? What is the status of the $50,000 we had asked for? Ranked second...not sure when we will hear more.

  • Announcements: CSUN joined ORCID a few weeks ago as an institutional member.

  • Question: is anyone minting DOIs? SJSU and CSUF have joined CrossRef so that they can mint DOIs. CPSLO may still have a CrossRef subscription. Sharing XML stylesheets between campuses may be helpful.
