Here is the latest from the ScholarWorks project. Our next update will be a combined one for November and December.

Data migration

This past month we exported and staged records for migration from DSpace to Hyrax for San Marcos, Chico, and Sonoma, with production data loads for all three campuses beginning in November. This included some rather extensive data remediation work, which has put us a bit behind schedule. But we expect to be nearly caught up to our original data migration calendar before the Winter holidays.

Vendor RFP

The Chancellor’s Office has now released an RFP inviting a vendor to develop several critical features for ScholarWorks, as well as to provide second-tier support for the new system. The RFP was released October 28, with responses due November 15. We have assembled a small task force to review and score responses, with the goal of awarding a contract in December.

Governance

Nominations are now being accepted for the new Digital Repositories Committee. The nomination form is available here. Please submit your nomination by Wednesday, November 13.

If you are interested in serving on the committee, you need to first secure the approval of your dean. You will also need to select which of the two working groups you would like to serve on, Metadata or Digital Archives, or if you would like to serve as one of the three at-large member on the steering committee. We will also be appointing chairs for the two working groups.

OJS upgrades

We’ve recently completed several software upgrades for both the test and production OJS instances. This included upgrading the servers to the latest available version of PHP, upgrading the site to the latest version of OJS, and reformatting the database to better support languages with non-Roman characters. We are now on OJS version 3.1.2.
