Automatically Enable Quicklinks

Make your end users’ search and discovery experience smooth and seamless with Quicklinks, which automatically embeds direct links to PDF and HTML full-text documents within the search results.  

• Enabled by default (different from language in feature update that indicates it is disabled by default)

• Go to Configuration Menu > Discovery > Display Configuration > Configure Views > General Attributes: Display Quick Links > Check

Suppress Indexing of Private Information

If there was information in the 561 field for your records, even if the first indicator was set to zero, this information was indexed and searchable. You can hide the field by performing the following:  

• Go to Configuration Menu > Discovery > GetIt Configuration > Holdings Search Configuration > Primo VE Customized Holdings for Search: select Exclude when first indicator equals 0

Support Configuration of Displayed Holdings Level in Get It

Shows location for single items with location + call number (similar to GetIt view for items with multiple locations) instead of showing all the details for an item (seen by the “expand for more information” toggle).

CDI Subject Normalization and New Keyword Field

Subject terms are being received in CDI in various formats and styles from providers and aggregators. To address the reported issues, incoming subject terms are now mapped to a controlled vocabulary, which is based primarily on LCSH and MeSH. However, there are several issues that have come up in the both from testing and from the Primo Listserv including the following:

• Subjects should be in alphabetical order 

• Author’s names are showing no results

• Keywords fields are required in brief results

In general, campuses should wait to get this feature fixed but also depends on how strongly subject records are

Embed Primo VE Showcase Widgets on Any Website

This enhancement enables you to embed a visual carousel of records tailored to the library’s specifications, helping libraries promote their content in other websites. The feature mostly works but may be difficult to implement (requires server space) and there are several drawbacks including: 

• Does not sort by newest books

• Accessibility issues so not really ADA compliant

• Problems with getting book covers

If campuses do implement this feature, please let the VE Testing Team know about is so we can get a closer look

Shared Digital Resource Improvements

This enhancement enables you to indicate whether you want to share digital records that were loaded from external data sources with other institutions based on Alma-D. Only two campuses have Alma-D so far so depended on individual campuses to do further testing to determine whether or not to enable.

Request Patron Consent When Registering at Another Institution

Register button appears in Get It to allow users from an institution to register to get access to services from another institution. Feature does not make sense for the CSUs and such requests rare enough that it would hinder processes already in place

Improving the User’s Session Timeout Experience

Alternative is to change the default 60 mins timeout in Configuration > Discovery > Configure View > General. 

• Go to Configuration > Discovery > Authentication > User Authentication

• Select from the three options to:

  • Enable extending the session

  • Enable extending the session to maximum

  • Enable user setting for extending the session - Must also go to Configuration > Discovery > Other > Customer Settings > display_user_settings: True

Resource Type Filter Bar - Updated October 2023

• Go to Configuration > Discovery > Display Configuration > Configure Views > Advanced Search Configuration

  • Go down to List of Resource Types and Select Enable for Basic Search

• Will also need to make sure all of the resource type icons are being used 

  • Go to display > configure view > brief results: Resource Type Filter Bar > Customize > select/deselect resource type

  • Example: CSUDH doesn't use Collections as a resource type so that would be deselected

• Filter bar cannot be enabled when either the basic search pre-filter for resource types or indexes is enabled on the Advanced Search tab 

  • Go to Configuration > Discovery > Display Configuration > Configure Views

• Requires changing CSS to make sure that white icons/text is visible against the background

• Resource type will be stickied so requires a Reset search to perform a new search, not just new search in the search box
