  • 130/245 Title rules testing - OOTB Results

    • CSUS has been testing the OOTB rule for 5 week. So far no issues reported with record titles.

  • Determine if the ULMS Title rule needs a default 245 rule

    • If using a customized norm rule, the OOTB rules will not apply.

Review the ULMS Subject Norm Rule

The group reviewed the Subject Norm Rule by walking through each rule to determine it’s structure and function. Once the the group got to the DEI subject rules, the conversation changed to reviewing the COLD recommendations and determining what was missing. (see next item)

Review Cold Requirements & Updated Rule

The group reviewed the COLD requirements and agreed that several recommendations were missing. Christian Ward added additional checks to the norm rule that the group reviewed. A few minor changes were made during the meeting, but the group will review the changes offline. CSUB offered to help test the rule.

It was noted that the most general 650 rule contains a single word transformation, Aliens → Noncitizens. It was the group’s consensus that the intended use of Aliens should relate to immigration, and that other terms such as Alien abduction, Aliens in film, Alien plants, etc. could be affected by the transformation. This can be resolved with an additional condition.

GSSO Note: Regarding the subject term document compiled by the IDTF, since we include the Homosaurus and GSSO indexes, those terms are added the subject listings. However, if we want to transform established subject terms to use the suggested terms, then we will need to create rules for those. For example, this test record indicates the following subjects:

Sexual minorities -- United States
Sexual minorities -- Civil rights -- United States
Sexual minorities -- United States -- History -- 21st century -- Sources
Sexual minorities -- Civil rights -- United States -- History -- 21st century — Sources

Adding a rules according to the IDTF suggestions would transform these subjects to:

LGBTQ+ people -- United States
LGBTQ+ people -- Civil rights -- United States
LGBTQ+ people -- United States -- History -- 21st century -- Sources
LGBTQ+ people -- Civil rights -- United States -- History -- 21st century — Sources

Is this the route we want to go? Perhaps you can verify with the IDTF on their recommendations?

Anyone going to eCAUG?

A few of us may go to eCAUG in October. If so, we may try to help answer any norm rule related questions.
