DEI Subject Headings Norm Rule | All | Review rule changes
Testing Update
Cold Requirements SummaryThe group reviewed the new norm rule changes, specifically:
Christian noted a new approach to selecting the data. Either abstracting the condition, or looking for the common denominator between transformed terms can help guide the creation of a rules. For examples, Illegal Immigration was selected for using the rule 650.”a” match “^.*llegal.*” This gets a larger set of records that can then be transformed only when the 650.”a” contains the specific term “Illegal immigration.” Several examples were looked at:
The first two transformations work as expected. The group discussed the Aliens → Noncitizens transformation in greater detail. It was noted that SUNY also does similar transformations, but omits Aliens due to its varied uses. We may want to consider a similar approach because the group can not verify where the Aliens transformation requirement came from. It may be possible to hide all subjects with specific terms. As per the documentation this feature exists in Primo VE. Regardless, the transformation itself needs additional changes; since we are transforming Noncitizen → Undocumented immigrant, it makes more sense to transform Alien → Undocumented immigrant to be compliant with COLD’s request. Christian made changes to the rule (V4) and will send to CSUB for testing. The rule is currently in place at CSUS. This rule is close to releasing. The group discussed next steps, and there was support to test the new rule, relay updates to Christiana Hennessey, and develop a plan for informing campuses of the updated rule. This work will be done before the November meeting. | ||||||||
