SWAT/COLD update

The SWAT team analyzed several questions regarding what would be gained and lost in the new system with a single repository. At the previous COLD meeting on March 1st, the SWAT team’s findings were affirmed in spirit, and COLD has voted affirmatively on two of the findings -- to implement a single instance repository for the IR, and to approve a policy regarding the scope of the IR. The full report is available (https://library.calstate.edu/docs/swat-report-2019.pdf)here, and a supplemental document was provided to COLD to outline possible scope determinations (https://library.calstate.edu/docs/swat-scope-2019.pdf).

COLD agreed to form a governance body for ScholarWorks. In the interim, an informal governance group formed from the SWAT group will proceed for the single repository.

Metadata/Linked Data & Digital Archives IG

In February, members of both the Metadata and Linked Data and Digital Archives IGs met to organize recommended models for theses, data sets, publications, and newspapers. Informed by both the data from DSpace and other external campus systems, the group addressed areas of overlap and difference, especially as pertains to digital archives related content.

For the IR, we have asked campuses to provide controlled vocabularies for departments and colleges. The deadline to make these available is April 5th. Please feel free to contact Kevin if you have any questions.

Digital Archives

Following from recommendations from the SWAT group, the Digital Archives IG began the process to explore systems as appropriate, including developing a report on DAMS requirements, as well as discovery systems for DCA materials.

Publishing IG

The publishing working group has been working on developing documentation for our OJS application. We plan to produce a website for documentation for students, faculty, staff, and practitioners outlining the steps to set up a journal.
