Statement of Purpose:

Promote and support the integration of social justice diversity, equity, inclusion and access (DEIA) initiatives  into COLD vision, mission, strategic planning, leadership and the COLD organizational structure including committees and task forces.

Advise COLD leadership and members on strategies and methods to ensure the fullest operational level of DEIA goals.

Committee Scope:

The committee provides guidance and recommendations for actions to achieve the COLD DEIA goals. This committee by itself is not tasked with implementing all DEIA initiatives of COLD; rather, the committee advises other committees and functional or governance units in COLD.

Committee Duties & Responsibilities:

This committee may be consulted by and consult with other COLD committees, groups, and individuals. The committee may recommend DEIA goals for COLD. The committee will collaborate and advise on changes to current practices, policies, physical and virtual spaces, and library culture to identify improvement using an equity and anti-racist lens. In some cases, this committee may plan, host, assist with, and/or sponsor events and initiatives.

Committee Membership Composition & Structure:

  • Two library deans/directors appointed by COLD who serve as chair and vice chair/chair-elect.

  • Six library personnel dedicated to advancing DEIA in libraries and nominated by members of COLD and selected from among the CSU campus libraries in a manner that will attempt to ensure equal representation of large and small campuses, north and south.

  • Recognizing that DEIA work often disproportionately falls upon BIPOC workers (resulting in unfair cultural taxation) and that the work of anti-racism and inclusion is everyone’s work, both BIPOC and white library employees are encouraged to serve on this committee.

  • Liaisons with other standing committees as desired.
